Neighbourhood Watch Quarterly meeting – 20th September – Summary

The Neighbourhood watch coordinators quarterly meeting was held on Tuesday 20th September at Grimsby town hall, and was attended by more than 20 coordinators.

Among the guest speakers was Sarah Baker, a representative from the Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS), who delivered an informative talk on reducing fire risk in the home.

This included services offered by the HFRS, for example, carrying out free home fire safety checks.   Members especially with vulnerable friends / relatives were advised to contact HFRS on telephone number 01472 243 700 to arrange.

Glyn Atkinson gave a brief presentation, proposing the idea of a trusted trader list; a directory for circulation among NHW members which contains details of only fully accredited, insured tradesmen who deliver reliable, quality services.

Police sergeant Neil Hutchins gave an update on current crime data in North East Lincolnshire. Overall crime had fallen by 268 from the average of the past 3 years; dwelling burglaries are down by 120 and non-dwelling burglary down by 226.

Steve Lynn gave a Neighbourhood Watch update including the recently launched  ‘Dogwatch’ scheme  which encourages dog walkers to keep an eye out  in their neighbourhood; being encouraged to report any criminal and environmental issues they discover.

Finally, a brief walkthrough of the NHW website was given .Members were encouraged to make use of the resources available on the site, such as the ‘little book of big scams’ which can be found using the search function.

The next meeting will be held on the 8th of December at Grimsby Town hall in the Crosland suite.  Please note that this meeting will begin at the earlier time of 6:00pm and will run to approximately 7:30pm.The new PCC will hopefully be attending.
