WeekNotes 2: 27th June 2025

Second in our series of weekly newsletters for Neighbourhood Watch and Neighbourhood groups

Welcome to our Neighbourhood Watch WeekNotes. I skipped a couple of weeks due to my holidays, but back again with a roundup of updates from the previous couple of weeks…

General News

Affected by Crime is a new service (including website, advice and helpline). It’s a joint venture between the PCC and Victim Support. It’s there to support any victims of crime. Visit the website https://affectedbycrime.com/ and tell others. The number is 0800 368 7586.

“Reforming our approach to floods funding” A new consultation is open (until 29th July) from DEFRA and if flooding is a concern to you then you might want to get involved in the consultation.

Scams and Fraud Awareness

VANEL continues to deliver scams/fraud awareness talks across North East Lincolnshire to local groups. Website info has just been updated here. Karl has now delivered over 43 sessions to 1000+ residents since 2022. Follow up with Karl if you are interested in a talk.

Fraudwatch issued a Trigger Alert (#27) about Police Impersonation Scams.

A new alert has been issued by Action Fraud, warning about quishing, a form of phishing where a fraudulent QR code is scanned, designed to steal personal and financial information. Quishing might be a new term for you, but it just refers to the use of QR codes rather than text messages or emails to scam you. Something to keep aware of. Which? Also has some useful info on avoiding fake QR codes.

If you’ve not come across this resource before, take a look at the Stop Think Fraud campaign.

Police related Updates

This week (w/c 23rd June 2025) was Neighbourhood policing week of action 2025. Read the Police interview with Neighbourhood Policing Assistant Chief Constable Mike Walker on the Police website here.

Many of the updates below are published via MyCommunityAlert. If you’re not signed up have a look and also encourage your members/neighbours to do so too.

East Marsh “How Grimsby’s East Marsh NPTs are tackling Anti-Social Behaviour”. Interview with Insp Musgrave about operations tackling ASB and drugs in East Marsh.

Neighbourhood Watch

Last chance to complete the Neighbourhood Watch Insights Survey 2025 from the national organisation OurWatch. Closes 4th July. Read more here and fill in the survey here.

Reflecting on Knife Crime. Look back at this blog written by a youth voice for OurWatch. While you’re at it, read about tackling knife crime on the Police website here. And there’s more on the Humberside Violence Prevention Partnership website here.
