Welcome to this weeks roundup of community safety related news relevant to Neighbourhood Watch Groups and neighbourhood and resident led initiatives.
There might be items of interest in previous editions too, so look back at previous weeks articles here.
General News

For your diary: On September 7th 2025 at 3pm the national emergency alert system will be tested once again. Everyone’s phone will alert people! More info. Perhaps let people know who you think might be unaware or will be disturbed by this.
You’ve heard of Crimestoppers but are you aware of Firestoppers? 0800 169 5558. Website and reporting form here. Anonymously report fires, arson or serious risks of fire.
Stop Loan Sharks investigates and prosecutes illegal money lenders and provides support for borrowers in the UK. Someone in your community might be affected. You can learn more from their website. But there is an opportunity on 17th July to attend an online webinar about this – more details.
Scams and Fraud Awareness
FraudWatch issues Trigger Fraud Alert No 29. Read it here. This is another alert about Police impersonation scams which happen all too often. Please share. You can sign up for future Trigger Alerts via MCA: alerts.fraudwatch.org.uk
I like this week’s advice via Which? about “Protect your privacy: 7 ways to secure your social media and email accounts”
Police related Updates
“A day in the life of our Neighbourhood Policing team Grimsby”. Read the article and, importantly, watch the video.
A warning from the Police about Cold Callers and Rogue Traders. Read the alert and advice on MCA here.
Also mentioned in the alert is the Police Crime Prevention Handbook about security your property. Download as a .pdf here. But VANEL has printed copies of the guide which can be obtained via Karl/VANEL/our offices/some community venues.
“No Cold Caller” window stickers can also be obtained via VANEL/Karl if you need one for your door/window.
Reminder about Nee Naw Day 2025 26th July Lots more information about the event on Facebook here.
For a bit of fun, the latest series of “Motorway Cops” has been filmed exclusively with Humberside Police. Read more.
Neighbourhood Watch
Very latest edition of the national OurWatch monthly newsletter is out. Read the July edition as a .pdf here.
Last week was Anti-Social Behaviour Week. A reminder that there is useful ASB advice on the OurWatch website here. And some really important information about ASB on the NELC website here.
