I skipped a week (holiday season) but here’s this week’s roundup of community safety related news. Remember previous weekly editions of this news summary are online.
Community Safety related
A reminder that the National Emergency Alerts test will take place on 7 September at 3pm. More info. Official Gov info about alerts. Be aware and warn those who you think might be aware themselves.
Did you know Crimestoppers produce an annual e-magazine? Read the Spring 2025 edition here.
Police related Updates
What is Secured by Design? Information from Humberside Police. If you’ve received household or personal safety devices over the past few years via VANEL, Police, Victim Support etc then those items are all Secured by Design approved. Their website contains some useful advice guides too.
“Our Force Control Room continues to improve the way Humberside Police support the public”
A reminder that the Policing survey from the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner is still open until 30th September.
Scams related
QR codes are everywhere these days. So, QR scams are on the increase. Here’s a quick guide to understanding and avoiding ‘Quishing’.
Which? Podcast talks about how “anyone can become a victim of scam (including you)”. 9mins listen. It’s here.
Neighbourhood Watch
The National Neighbourhood Watch Conference organised by OurWatch will be on Wed 24th September and is online for the first time. If you’re a Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator or volunteer then I’d encourage you to register yourself to join the conference on Zoom.
Registration is via the Ourwatch website here. The invite does say “anyone interested in our aims to reduce crime and build stronger communities” so I’d recommend anyone interested should register and get involved.
It runs 10am-2pm online (with breaks). If you can join online then great – I’ll see you on Zoom. If you would like to join but tech is not going to work for you then please contact me direct as we’re hosting a session at our offices (82 Grimsby Road Cleethorpes) to join the zoom together. Please get in touch.
Our Neighbourhood Watch Information points (hubs) are popping up in more places. Each point has leaflets and info related to community safety to pick up. And there’s a method (via QR code/weblink) to report any issues that you’re concerned about (not crimes or anything that should be reported to Police or other agencies). The hubs are now at Cup of joy Cafe, East Marsh; Stamford Centre, Laceby; Bert Boyden and Civic Centre in Immingham. More informal info points are at Pilgrim Shed, Immingham; Big Local offices, Cleethorpes; Sussex Pavilion, Cleethorpes. More info.
Local initiatives
In South Ward on 12th August nearly 20 partner organisations gathered in Sutcliffe Park to hold a “Together for Tomorrow” community safety day to talk to South Ward residents. Info here. Grimsby Telegraph write up here.

Holidays get in the way next so no weeknotes for a few weeks – back later in September.
