Dogwatch launch at Woofs

Dog show promises to be explosive

WITH just days to go until the Woofs dog show, organisers have announced the military working dogs will be demonstrating their skills at searching out explosives.

This is just one of the many exciting special events taking place throughout the day when North East Lincolnshire Council, in conjunction with the Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside, hosts the event at the Meridian Showground, Cleethorpes, on Wednesday, (August 17), from 10am.

With the weather forecast looking bright and sunny it’s promising to be a day to remember for dog owners, their pooches and spectators.

Entries for the following classes are still open, for a nominal, cash only, charge of £1 per dog per class.

Classes and approximate timings are:

11am to 12 noon
1. Snap. Do you look like your dog? (fancy dress for humans optional)
2. Best rescue dog
3. Best puppy under 12 months
4. Best veteran over seven years-of-age

1pm to 2pm
5. Trickiest trick
6. Politest paw shake
7. Fabulous fella dog
8. Loveliest lady dog

3pm to 4pm
9. Fantastic family
10. Waggiest tail
11. Best dressed dog
12. Best in show

Beat the queues and enter and pay in advance at Cleethorpes Tourist Information Centre, at the library on Alexandra Road, or pay on the day. There will be prizes for all the winners of each category who will then go forward to the free overall best in show class.

In addition to the competition classes there will be demonstrations including obedience and heel work to music.

Owners will have the chance to put their dogs through their paces on the agility course or take part in the hunt the sausage competition.

Pet, craft, food and drink stalls will be available and lots of free entertainment including face painting.

And don’t miss the launch of Dogwatch, an initiative which encourages dog walkers to help keep their neighbourhoods safe.
