As Neighbourhood Watch volunteers celebrate National Neighbourhood Watch Week 2017 – the movement is proudly raising its official member household coverage to 8.7 million member households.
Previous figures had suggested the movement’s reach was an already impressive 3.8 million member households.
But the latest available figures* from the ONS Crime Survey of England and Wales shows 37% of respondents said they were members of Neighbourhood Watch – when this is averaged against the population data it equates to an estimate of just over 8.7 million households.
Lynn Farrar, chair of the Neighbourhood & Home Watch Network – the national charity that supports the Neighbourhood Watch movement said: “We know that many millions of people identify as being a member of a scheme.
