Welcome to 2026. This is the first ‘weeknotes’ of the year bringing you a very brief update on local community safety related news and information.
Maybe it’s time to set your new years resolutions around community safety? Start by signing up to MyCommunityAlert? Or make a commitment to communicate more with your neighbours and community? Perhaps take the free training and become a Friend Against Scams? Or maybe pick one of these 40 ideas (from the Neighbourhood Watch Network) to do in your community?
Whatever you do, have a great start to 2026.
Remember that all previous editions of this news summary are online. If you’re involved with a group or network, please share anything in this email that feels useful with others.

Both Police and Fire are currently setting their budgets and deciding on the level of precept that residents/the public will pay. Both have consultations open at the moment to get your opinion. Take a chance to have your say before the consultations close.

I’ve recently had a number of discussions around e-scooters. So here’s a reminder of the rules around e-scooters and e-bikes as published on Humberside Police website.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
We’re only just getting started with 2026 but here’s a date for your diary: Neighbourhood Watch Week 2026 will be Monday 1st June to Sunday 7th June 2026 and the theme will be “Watch, Connect and Act”.
Ourwatch have updated and relaunched their guide to identifying and reporting ASB (Anti-social behaviour). Download the guide here or visit their information page.
I was asked about an electronic version of our “Stay Safe” guide/booklet recently. This can be found online here. So if you communicate with your group network electronically please feel free to share the link. Printed copies can of course be collected from a range of locations across the borough (or please contact me if you need copies for your group).
Ourwatch have a new strategy which will run 2026-2031. It’s not up on their website yet but here’s a taster of the key goal and themes:
(from Ourwatch) “Our goal is to have safer, better connected and active communities and to achieve this we want to concentrate on three key areas.
Bring neighbours together – We will inspire more people to build safer, friendly communities that people feel a part of
Show our impact – We will clearly demonstrate the real difference Neighbourhood Watch makes, through powerful stories and evidence
Be trusted and innovative – We will be recognised as a reliable and forward-thinking organisation, tackling today’s crimes with fresh ideas to build safer, better neighbourhoods “
