Welcome to East Riding Neighbourhood Watch.
We have nearly 400 groups across the East Riding and within that we have area group leads who help us set up meetings for all coordinators in their local areas. These meetings are attended by police and local councillors and give Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators a voice on behalf of residents regarding local crime issues.
Neighbourhood Watch aims to:
- Reduce the opportunities for crime
- Help and reassure those who live in fear of crime and make people feel safer
- Encourage communities to work closely together with local Police and Authorities
- Encourage community spirit.
As well as regular residential groups we also have the following:
Holiday Park Watch:
This was developed in 2022 following a spate of holiday home crimes during the 2021/22 closed season. The Safe Communities team visited many holiday parks up and down the coast and held an event in conjunction with Bridlington North Holiday Park during Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness week in July. Fifty-three holiday parks in the east riding have signed up to the scheme and an event is scheduled in conjunction with the Winter Woodland event at Sewerby Hall before Christmas. A highlight of this is inviting children to design a poster that will then be incorporated into a sign, that will be displayed at holiday parks across the East Riding.
Horse Watch:
Originally started in 2021 following the kidnap and subsequent death of a pony in Preston village. The original grouping covered South Holderness, from Hull’s eastern boundary to the coast. During 2022 a second grouping was established to cover Bridlington North. This covers the town and the north Wolds area north and west of Bridlington.
Heritage Watch:
Not only locally, but nationally too, the concept is still in its infancy though proposals are to incorporate a N.H.W. with a lot of heritage estate in that area. Meetings have taken place with Humberside Police, a suitable N.H.W. has been identified as has heritage property in the area, and it is hoped to push this forward during 2023. Heritage crime is broader than might sometimes be realised and can include such as post boxes, fencing, doors and landscapes. Ownership can be private, by a group, local authority or other.
River Watch:
River Watch was developed in the East Riding to link together those who run various mooring sites and those who live in river/canal boats. The scheme has been running for several years and incorporates waterways in Beverley, Driffield and Goole.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is committed to supporting Neighbourhood Watch and help is available whether you are looking to start a new group or re-launch an existing group. The Police and other agencies work closely with the council to support NHW groups. For more information about setting up a Neighbourhood Watch Group email us at:
